West Coast Energy has submitted a planning application and
environmental statement for a proposed seven turbine wind farm at
Corse Hill, between Arbroath and Carnoustie, to planning officials
at Angus Council. The total installed capacity of the wind
farm would be up to 17.5MW.
The application site is located approximately 3km east of
Carnousite and 2.5km west of Arbroath, between the A92 and the
coastal railway line, adjacent to Hatton Water Treatment Works.
Over the past six months the renewable energy company has
engaged with the local community regarding their plans, including
holding a round of public consultations in July, as well as a
number of meetings with community councils and other community
groups. The public consultation programme has given local
communities and residents the opportunity to learn about the
proposals for Corse Hill Wind Farm and to contribute their views on
the scheme.
The proposed seven turbine wind farm also includes a community
turbine within the overall development, allowing the local
communities to benefit from the net profit from the wind turbine,
which can be used to fund numerous local projects. In order
to discuss, suggest and consult on how these funds could be used, a
Community Liaison Forum has been established, with membership made
up of representatives of the local communities around the wind farm
site. The Forum is currently in the process of selecting an
independent Chair.
The use of wind power carries with it significant environmental
benefits. Corse Hill Wind Farm is projected to generate clean green
electricity to meet the annual domestic electricity consumption
equivalent to around 10,000 homes, making a meaningful contribution
to the Scottish Government's target for 100% of Scottish
electricity consumption to be produced from renewable energy
sources by 2020. Over its 25 year life, it is estimated that the
wind farm could displace over 494,300 tonnes of CO2 that would
otherwise have been produced had fossil fuels like coal or gas been
used instead.
Steve Salt, Planning and Development Director of West Coast
Energy, said:
"We are delighted to announce that we have submitted our planning
application for the Corse Hill Wind Farm to Angus Council. We
are pleased with the positive feedback that we have received and
the success of the consultation process. We look forward to a
continued engagement with the community as the application
progresses through the planning system".

supporting plans and drawings may be viewed at Angus Council's
planning office in Forfar and the libraries in Carnoustie and
Arbroath.
