West Coast Energy involved in topical debate on the energy industry in Wales

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

West Coast Energy Planning and Development Director, Steve Salt appeared on the panel of Insider Wales Energy Forum today where the agenda was to discuss how Wales can maximise its energy potential and become more energy efficient.

The event was well attended with questions ranging from how to balance environmental impact with energy development, the need for education to change habits, National grid issues in consulting with local people on grid connection, and the relevance of solar in the energy mix given the change in the feed-in tariff.

Panel comments highlighted the need for top level leadership from government in creating a stable environment for investment.

Steve Salt commented, "For Wales to attract inward investment, it is important that consistent strong policy is adopted and implemented.  This is particularly so with the energy sector where long project development periods are the norm.  Unfortunately recent uncertainty on renewable energy targets caused by a number of contradictory statements made by the Welsh Government in relation to TAN8 only serve to undermine investors' confidence."

The editor made the point that they would try to get a WAG speaker on the next panel as their role was so instrumental.
