West Coast Energy, on behalf of Barlockhart Moor Wind Energy, is
proud to sponsor Glenluce Sports for a third year. Our sponsorship
provides prizes for various sporting events which bring the
community together, such as: football, tug of wars and various
other family quizzes and competitions.
Matthew Hayes, Project Manager at West Coast Energy commented,
'In accordance with our commitment to supporting the local
community and being a responsible developer, we are keen to
continue our support of the sports week, which is always warmly
welcomed by the organisers.'
Ian Patterson, Glenluce community member and sports week
organiser said, 'We have a packed programme and, with this
extra support from West Coast Energy we are looking forward to
a great Glenluce Sports Week.'
Barlockhart Moor Wind Energy Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of
West Coast Energy Ltd, and in association with local farmers Gibson
Siwo and Gibson McHarrie, has been given the go ahead to construct
a wind farm at Barlockhart Moor.
Glenluce is situated near to Barlockhart Moor Wind Farm, an
8-10MW wind farm comprising of 4 turbines, up to 112m height.
Construction will take approximately 6 months and is expected to be
complete by summer 2012. An application to increase the turbine
dimensions fractionally (115m) has been recently submitted, and is
awaiting a response from the council.
Over the 25 year lifespan of the Barlockhart Moor Wind Farm, a
local Community Benefit Fund will help to fund environmental,
economic and social projects in the nearby communities. The
Fund is expected to be up to £20,000 per year, or £0.5 million over
the lifespan of the wind farm. Should the proposed height
increase be permitted the community benefit package could be
anywhere up to £30,000 per annum.
As well as the Community Benefit Fund, the local community will
gain additional indirect expenditure in local shops, hotels and
other local services and local companies will be able to bid for
construction contracts valued in excess of £1 million.
