Ground swell of interest in renewable energy among Welsh communities and businesses

Thursday, July 28, 2011

West Coast, an independent group of companies based in North Wales which is active in a wide range of renewable energy sectors and at all scales, is sponsoring a series of public events in Wales this year to promote renewable energy, advise local communities and businesses about their options, and meet growing demands for information.

"The publication of the Westminster Government's energy market reform white paper, and news of more energy price hikes, have put the question of where energy of the future will come from right at the top of everyone's agenda," says Gerry Jewson of West Coast. "People need as much information as possible and we are pleased to support events where all enterprises and organisations involved in renewable energy can share their knowledge."

Events arranged to advise and inform local businesses are attracting growing audiences across Wales. The Green Power Forum held in June to share best practice in renewable technology attracted more than 100 public and private sector professionals who are committed to driving down carbon emissions. Exhibiting companies outlined the commercial case for going green and offered guidance to business owners on how to meet government-set targets.

Events on the 2011 agenda that are supported by West Coast include:

The Wales Business Insider Energy Forum (12 July)
A debate where members of the audience asked a panel of industry professionals, including West Coast Energy's Planning and Development Director, questions about renewable energy.

Anglesey Agricultural Show (9-10 August)
The Anglesey Agricultural Show is one of Wales' premier events that attracts hundreds of exhibitors, including energy developers. Last year over 60,000 people attended the show across the two days.

The Low Carbon Expo (16-17 September)
A national exhibition hosted in Cardiff showcasing the leading providers of energy-saving products. It explores ways to easily adopt sustainable activities to benefit the environment while saving money.

Flintshire Business Week (11-19 October)
This annual event helps to support the business community of Flintshire. It shares sustainability knowledge and best practice, develops and improves working relationships, and serves as a platform for over 90 local businesses.
