Whilst all the usual madness was
underway at Glastonbury, this sunny weekend saw people flock from
all over the UK to take in an altogether different cultural
experience at the Gwyl Gobaith Festival of Hope. Flintshire in
Wales played host to a three-day series of open-air music concerts,
sponsored by leading independent wind energy developer West Coast
Energy Limited.
Launched for the first time in
2009, the music festival is organised to raise funds for Hope House
Hospices, whose purpose built support facilities cater for the
special needs and requirements of terminally ill children visiting
from Shropshire, Cheshire, Wrexham and Powys.
The second annual festival took
place at The Welsh College of Horticulture, Northop in Flintshire,
between last Friday 25 and Sunday 27 June 2010. Local businesses
and artists were encouraged to participate and join an
international set of singers and musicians in a weekend of
classical and musical performances.
Each night celebrated a different
musical genre, commencing with Friday's 'Choirs in the Park' event,
when the London Community Gospel Choir took to the stage,
Saturday's 'Musicals in the Park' with West End sensation Peter
Karrie and Sunday's 'Classics in the Park', which had the audience
spellbound with the sounds of tenor Rhys Meirion.
To mark the festival West Coast
Energy invited two key guests to the three-night event. Delyn MP
David Hanson and Welsh Assembly Member Sandy Mewies joined the West
Coast Energy team in the festivities.
Paula Jewson, Director and Company
Secretary of West Coast Energy, comments: "The Hope House Hospice
appeal provides such a crucial role in the lives of so many local
families, and we feel privileged to be able to support their work
in such a creative way. The festival was a significant success,
thanks in part to the glorious weather, and we applaud the
organisers for their hard work and dedication to the cause."
