West Coast Energy, a leading UK
based independent wind farm developer, has applied to East
Northamptonshire Council to build its Barnwell Manor Wind Farm. The
5 turbine wind farm would be located around 8km west of Oundle,
near the villages of Sudborough and Brigstock and would have a
capacity of up to 12.5MW.
Jonathan Cawley, Planning &
Development Manager for West Coast Energy said: "This is a great
site for East Northamptonshire's first wind farm, and will play an
important role in the UK's future energy mix as we look to produce
affordable, secure and renewable energy for generations to
come."
The proposed wind farm will offset
significant amounts of CO2 and other greenhouse gases that might
have otherwise been produced if that electricity had been generated
using fossil fuels like coal and gas. It will provide enough
power to generate the domestic needs of about 7,000 homes[1] - this is
the equivalent to over one fifth of all of East Northamptonshire's
households.
A community fund will form an
important part of this proposal and West Coast Energy will be
discussing locally the preferred way of distributing the fund
should planning permission be granted.
